Because you might literally be the oldest* friend on my LJ, I think I'll step forward.

(*not in age... blah, you know what I mean)
mellowcandle From: mellowcandle Date: September 14th, 2012 04:11 pm (UTC) (Link)
No, I'm old. I know it.

1. Tell you why I friended you.
Oh, so long ago. I think I read and reviewed one of your fics, and you were courteous enough to do the same, and it went from there.

2. Associate you with something.
Libertarianism, of course

3. Tell you something I like about you.
You speak your mind. Also, you were one of the best writers in CCS fandom, and I'm sad we don't share fandoms anymore, because I miss reading your stuff.

4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
When you wanted to know where the Shrine challenges were coming from and how you could get in on it. You brought some great stuff to the group.

5. Associate you with a character/pairing.
Um.... oh, yeah, Touya

6. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
What do you find to be the hardest part of the writing process and how do you break through it?

7. Tell you my favourite userpic of yours.

8. Tell you that you must post this in your own journal.
If you like.

I like your answers! Sigh, I miss reading your stuff too. If there was a fic in this new fandom of yours that could be enjoyed without canon knowledge, which would it be?

I think the hardest part of writing is having the confidence to go forward with my chosen plot. Sometimes I come up on crossroads and I realize that my next few steps could drastically change the course of the story. And the reason that such a thing occurs to me is because I actually do have a few mental images from each path, and I know they're good ideas, but they're mutually exclusive and I have to choose. It's the worst feeling, having that doubt eat you up inside. The best way to deal with it, I think, is to write out the logical conclusion of each option and see where it's going to lead. Because it's all about how things end, and if I don't know that then I'm not going to get anywhere. The one with the best ending is the path to take.

Of my stuff, I'd say Out Here doesn't require too much canon knowledge, as it's pairing-focused rather than plot-focused, which is typical for me anyway, really.

You always do plotting so well, so it's kind of a relief to hear it can trip you up. It's definitely my weakest point and the biggest issue with my thing I'm working on right now. I'm trying to just take it one chapter at a time, but I'm still worried about making the eventual ending satisfying enough. So that answers why I've never finished anything.

Feels like it's been a very long time.

1. Tell you why I friended you.
I think you wrote to me about Shadows, and we struck up a conversation from there.

2. Associate you with something.
Writing. Yikes, that's vague, isn't it.

3. Tell you something I like about you.
You're a good sport.

4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
Eee, the t_d debacle. I honestly had no idea that would go down the way it did, but see the above "good sport" comment, because you took it like a champ.

5. Associate you with a character/pairing.
Why, Touya/Tomoyo

6. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
What's something you like to do purely for the fun of it? Not as a project or something to get better at, but just for fun?

7. Tell you my favourite userpic of yours.

8. Tell you that you must post this in your own journal.
I tell no one nothing. Do or do not.
cal_reflector From: cal_reflector Date: September 15th, 2012 03:52 am (UTC) (Link)
1. I wrote you about Shadows so many times over 5 years I think you got tired of it.

2. Nothing I whine/fantasize more than the subject of writing.

3. Or... I just have no convictions or hate disagreement.

4. I'd do it again in a hear beat.

5. I like to think I'm your best acolyte.

6. Fanfic I used to do just for fun. Fantasy sports? Also: Planning a better tax system and military for the country. Yeah...

7. I think that was from Daa! Daa! Daa! Best cute baby anime series ever.

Thinks I remember why you friended me...or did I friend you first? It's been so long, lol. Why not? Let's do this! :)
mellowcandle From: mellowcandle Date: September 14th, 2012 04:31 pm (UTC) (Link)
1. Tell you why I friended you.
Yeah, who was it first? Either way, it was through CCS fandom. I'm always glad to friend anyone who wants to talk about fic and fandom.

2. Associate you with something.
k-drama and k-pop. I know little to nothing about them myself, but even so.

3. Tell you something I like about you.
I can tell it's important to you to work hard and do things right, even when everyone else sucks, and I admire that.

4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
Oh, when someone tore me apart for voting for Bush, and you had my back on that. That was awesome of you.

5. Associate you with a character/pairing.
Is it too random if I say Annie from Community? This is a compliment; I love Annie.

6. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
What's something you know you want to do someday, and what's something you never want to do, and do you think you'll end up doing either?

7. Tell you my favourite userpic of yours.

8. Tell you that you must post this in your own journal.
Anyone who wants to or not is free to or not.

Ha, I totally forgot about the Bush thing. :)

What's something you know you want to do someday, and what's something you never want to do, and do you think you'll end up doing either?

I really would like to just travel for a long time, like...for several months at least. Drive across the country. See the sights. Visit as many States as possible.

I never want to have one of my hobbies as a job. As much as people say it's great to love what you have to do...if I had to do it I don't think I would like doing it anymore. I'm like that.

I don't think either of these would ever happen. The first would require either a large fund of money being dropped into my lap or me giving up life as I know it and becoming a wandering nomad. The second would require me focusing enough energy and hard work on one of my hobbies in order to make the leap from just for fun to career. Plus, that talent thing that you have to have...I just don't think I have enough of it (just being realistic).

Do me!

1. Tell you why I friended you.
We used to have fun chatting on AIM, and I was glad you found me here.

2. Associate you with something.
Dead Like Me. You're the only person to ever recommend a series to me that I actually ended up liking!

3. Tell you something I like about you.
You have this lovely, poetic way of writing, really capturing things like mood and atmosphere. And you were willing to try something different or unusual with pairings, always keeping things fresh and interesting. So, in much fewer words, your creativity.

4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
You were one of the first people to join the Shrine and helped get it going. It's quiet in there now, but that first year or so of challenges was the best. So much fun.

5. Associate you with a character/pairing.
Touya/Kaho, baby!

6. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
What work of fiction do you think has had the greatest influence on you, either as a writer or just as a person?

7. Tell you my favourite userpic of yours.

8. Tell you that you must post this in your own journal.
This could create an endless loop!
sakuracorr From: sakuracorr Date: September 21st, 2012 02:31 pm (UTC) (Link)
I remember chatting on AIM, but I honestly don't remember the convos anymore! Haha, I don't remember that about Dead Like Me either, but I really did like that show myself. Too bad someone new was in charge of Showtime and wanted to get rid of things/change them up.

Aww, that's really a nice thing to say about my writing. Thanks! :3

I think I'll always remember the Shrine!

Umm, work on fiction that has had the greatest influence on me has probably been either The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera or The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami. On the former, I had always had this idea in my head about the form of a novel and how long chapters needed to be and what it could be like (and how that was soooo different from a short story), and Milan Kundera kind of blew that out of the water for me, and I'm grateful. The latter was just so surreal, so beautiful, so outside of what most people did with a novel, it really inspired me to what was possible in terms of fiction.

Haha, I think I'll end the endless loop here! :P
mellowcandle From: mellowcandle Date: September 23rd, 2012 06:50 pm (UTC) (Link)
I think you mentioned Wind-up Bird Chronicle once before, so I'm definitely putting it on my list for next time I buy books. Mostly I just read brain candy, but sometimes I love reading something just for the style of it, something that's just completely different.
