BABY JAMES.

"Two Princesses and a Baby" might be right up there with "A Royal Mess" as one of my favorite episodes, and definitely the best since "Princess Butterfly" (although why didn't Amber learn her lesson there? "I know, I'll ask Cedric to do a spell to fix my problem, because that never goes wrong!")

So, so glad to actually see in canon how much James and Amber actually do love each other and how strong their twin bond is. I don't know when their mother died, but until Roland remarried and brought Miranda and Sofia into the family, it was probably just the two of them relying on each other for comfort and friendship. (I wish we knew something about the previous queen though--even if this episode kinda spoiled my idea for a fic where their birthday tradition is getting up early and visiting their mother's grave.)

The "2 by 2" song may have made me a little teary for this reason, and seeing Baby James kiss his sister and clutch at her skirts, seeing her pick him up and cuddle him was just so adorable. When she glomped him when he turned back to normal... that was completely precious.

This really is the first hint I think we've had since "Once Upon a Princess" about how important they are to each other. When she was so jealous of all the attention Sofia was getting and acting out, James called her on it, saying something like, "You're just mad that everyone likes her better than you, and now I do, too." That seemed like the thing that really hurt her the most, that her beloved twin, the one person who was always there for her, liked the new girl better.

I love this show so much. I don't care if it's for preschoolers. When it's good, it's really good.

(I need a better twinicon. Maybe one of these days I'll screencap "A Royal Mess".)
