although one of these was pretty bad yet I finished it anyway

Five books and three manga in August. The good thing about the internet being spotty, I guess, is that I'm reading more. Although I need to be writing, too.

The FitzOsbornes in Exile by Michelle Cooper
My Lady's Pleasure by Olivia Quincy
The Ingredients of Love by Nicolas Barreau
The School for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani
The Uninvited Guests by Sadie Jones

I think the next FitzOsbornes book comes out in paperback next month, so until then I'll just wonder why Veronica and Toby don't get married. Aunt Charlotte would have kittens, but neither of them are interested in marrying anyone anyway, Veronica would get to be queen as she rightly should, and she probably wouldn't care if he discreetly had a boy on the side.

There were a couple of great quotes in The Ingredients of Love that I really liked and was going to share but probably won't bother, but there was one that was something about how "a book with a garbage beginning will have a garbage middle and a garbage end, but a good book is good on every page", and I've read enough to know that's usually true, and why I'm more likely to give up on books than I used to be. That Holly book I read earlier this year is one I really should have taken the hint on--the first chapter was awful, but I thought "Well, it can only get better from here, right?" I used to try to read a book through to the end, and then I decided to give it a hundred pages to grab me, and now my tolerance and patience is very limited as I've learned that, yes, a book with a garbage beginning is probably not going to get any better.
