What is one specific moment in Buffy you would have changed completely?
mellowcandle From: mellowcandle Date: February 2nd, 2009 02:58 pm (UTC) (Link)
I don't know if this is a specific moment per se, but I do think Spike should have died by the end of the fourth season. He'd shown that even chipped he could still do damage, so he was still a threat, despite the writers trying to turn him into "Wacky Neighbor Spike". Yeah, it was funny seeing Spike on a leash, but given how the focus of the show really recentered around him in the last three years, I gladly would have seen him staked in "Primeval". I admit Spuffy was an interesting concept, in terms of Buffy's self-loathing and confusion when she was brought back, but trying to sell it as "love" on either of their parts was just... no.

Spike just sucked up (pun alert!) too much screentime in the last few years, and I felt like his story was being told over and over, and I just didn't care anymore. And I think he was too much a distraction for Buffy, and she developed an even bigger blind spot regarding him than she ever had for Angel. If Spike had to stick around, it should have been as a villain, not a romantic lead. But yeah, I really got tired of Buffy's excuses for letting him live. Meanwhile, my Xander was shunted off to the side and proclaimed "done" by Joss (which I suppose was a blessing, since Xander suffered the least character assassination the last year).

/tl;dr

Don't tell my friends who like Spuffy, but I think the whole thing was very pointless and was part of the reason I could have cared less when it got canceled.

It was pointless in the end, or at the least handled really really badly, and just ultimately ruined the show, I thought. I was only sad it was canceled because it had been so good, but by that point I was only watching out of loyalty, to see how it ended (which was badly, of course, and All About Spike), and it needed to go.

Why is your blog titled "Girls Who Marry Goats"?? o.O
mellowcandle From: mellowcandle Date: February 2nd, 2009 08:16 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Goat" is a play on our last name, and there's a book/movie called "Men Who Stare at Goats", so voila, you get "Girls Who Marry Goats". It'll stay my title until I get bored and change it again. I've had a good six or seven titles over the years.

It's 123-45-6789. Shhhhhhh.

Ten years ago when we were in London, we went to Primrose Hill and said, "You know, next time we're here, we need to bring a picnic". So it took nine years, but we went back and took a picnic. We stopped in M&S and got some sandwiches, crisps, and some wine, and had a picnic lunch. It was the best. So peaceful and relaxing, and such a pretty day.

Maybe this is too personal, I don't know, but I have been trying to figure out for a long time: what do you and D do? Like, in terms of jobs?

(And please feel free to be vague, like "retail" instead of "the Best Buy on 42nd Street, second shift", I have just never been able to figure it out.)

I guess at present you'd call us "self-employed investors", but this is temporary while our moving situation is up in the air. Even though our plans to move last fall fell through, we're still hoping something will work out this spring and haven't wanted to make any changes that will tie us to this city/house until we know for sure if we're going or staying. Then we'll be examining our options, but neither of us wants to go back to cubicle hell.

Um, what is this new fandom that has absorbed your every waking thought? I keep waiting for you to say it again, at least one more time, but all you ever mention are the characters' names. I'd backtrack through your journal to look for it, but at this point it's gotten to be a game of waiting. Every new post I think, 'Okay, maybe THIS time she'll let it slip again!' But you're really holding out.

Heh, sorry, I wasn't trying to be coy. It's Tales of the Abyss, the anime based on the PS2 game.
