penny blossoms!
I picked up the first volume of Otomen at Borders last week, and it is just so adorable! He's wearing a Penny Blossom on the cover! I've ordered the second one now and hope to get it this week. Since I was kind of disappointed in how Penguin Revolution ended, I was needing a new cute series.

But when I finished it, I gave it to D, and yes, he's actually reading it. He loooooved W Juliet and Aishiteruze Baby, too.

Current Mood: good good
Current Music: carnival--natalie merchant

I'm going to give this a shot after it seeing it show up on a couple of friend's profiles. Since I'm multilingual and unscrupulous I can read up to volume 6. I'll let you know what happens.

NO SPOILERS! Though D and I were wondering what the main conflict was going to be. If it's just going to be "shy guy tries confessing to oblivious girl" for six hundred chapters, then I may tire of it.

After reading six chapters I must say I was kind of disappointed. I feel the art style is pretty but generic, and the author does a soso job getting emotion and tension across. It's kind of flat, no big ups and downs. I could say the same for Yotsubato but Yotsubato had way more fun and adventure despite being about a far more mundane topic.

Mostly, several more new characters with their own problems get introduced.

I thought it was really funny, and I liked having a male lead character, which is something I don't get often, since I'm so picky. I don't expect a lot of emotional depth up front while things are still being established, although it will be nice if that improves as things move forward. The "no ups or downs" is mainly what D and I meant by conflict, as in, what's going to actually happen in the story. I can't compare it to Yotsubato--that'd be like comparing Gilmore Girls to Seinfeld.

This manga has given new ideas and possible new perspective on Touya. The guy is good at cooking, presumably sowing and other chores...

I wonder what a Tomouya patterned after the most reviled Shojo cliches would look like. I may give it a shot just to find out.
