just one?

What's the most annoying thing that happened to you this week?

Last week we went to Home Depot for two reasons: to buy a new range, and to order new flooring for our living room/hallway.

The range was to be delivered last Thursday, didn't come until Friday, and then didn't work, so they had to take it back and order a new one. They brought the new one Wednesday, and it had a huge ding in the side. They plugged it in and it worked, so we kept it because we didn't want to spend the rest of our days waiting to receive a series of busted stoves. We do get a $75 damage refund, and the ding doesn't show because it's up against the cabinets, but still.

The flooring is the more obnoxious situation. Last Wednesday we made our order and the woman told us she'd call us Friday to let us know when it could be delivered and installed. The installation is done by a sub-contractor, so all of that has to be coordinated, plus the flooring has to sit in our house for three days to acclimate before it can be installed.

We also have some furniture we're planning to donate to Salvation Army and want to get it out of the house and out of the way before the installation starts.

Anyway, she didn't call us last Friday, so D called her back two days ago to find out what's going on. She said the materials are all in but she hasn't been able to set anything up with the installers yet, so she said she would check and call him back that afternoon.

It's now Friday morning and we still haven't heard when our flooring is going to be installed. We're again in perpetual limbo and unable to make any plans because we don't know when we'll need to be home for this delivery and installation.

Salvation Army is coming tomorrow to pick up our donation, so at least that will be taken care of.

I don't know. We were really, really happy with the installation guys when they did our kitchen floor, and since we've requested the same people, maybe they're just busy. But they could tell us that, you know? Even if they're busy, they should know when they'll be free to do our job, and we could do what we need to do in the meantime.

We need this floor done so we can buy new furniture, and then I think we'll be done with the home "improvement" stuff for the time being. We want our lives back.

D says as soon as this is done we're going to get out of town for a couple days, maybe go down to the Gulf. Sounds good to me.

So, anyway, an hour after I wrote this, the delivery guy called for directions to our house. D called the store to ask "WTF" and kept getting put through to voicemail, and finally he called and said, "Look, I need to talk to an actual person because I've left three voicemails in the past two days that no one's returned, the delivery truck is on its way here and I have no confirmed installation date". It turns out the scheduling woman has been out sick all week (again, something you could have told us) but they're "90% sure" they can start installation next week.

Which means there's a 10% chance--more, really--that these 22 boxes are going to be sitting in my living room indefinitely.
