pull me down hard and drown me in love
Well, it's porn, anyway.

Title: Perfection
Series: ToA
Length: 1725 words
Genre: Romance, Porn
Pairing: Guy/Natalia
Summary: Who needs a summary for porn?

I originally started this months ago using the 10_passions theme "rough hands", but then didn't know what to do with it. So when I opened the doc a few days ago, I thought, "Hell, use it as a setup for porn". So the beginning may feel disjointed from the rest. But then the porn starts, and who's gonna remember the first few paragraphs? Why are you looking for internal consistency in pornfic anyway? Just enjoy the smut!

I think I've unofficially challenged myself to see how many times I can throw them in bed together without either of them using the L word. In WWYS it wasn't even one of his reasons for proposing, or one of hers for accepting.

I feel like I haven't hit on the definitive idea for them yet, so that's why I keep throwing out all this other random stuff. Maybe I'm saving the big L for that definitive fic.

And LJ was down for like two hours this morning while I tried to post this, like it was telling me, "The world doesn't need Guy/Nat porn." YES IT DOES.

Would anyone be interested in my Guy/Nat playlist?

Hmmm. Whereas in the past you tended to skirt around the graphic details, this time you did not. I think it is an improvement (is it proper for us to discuss the merits to writing good smut??).

Yeah, it may have been a tad dirtier than usual, but if you're going to have a fantasy, do it right.

(is it proper for us to discuss the merits to writing good smut??)

I would think so.

In that case...

I think you're one of the better writers at writing sex in fiction that I know. There are two others (both married ladies, not surprisingly) I know who are also good. Below are two examples which I thought were very good, even though their styles are very different:

and

I don't think I'm good at this at all. Part of it is I'm still kind of awkward with a subject I'm not well experienced in.

If you don't like mysteries and thrillers, I think you could try one of these. Who knows, you just might find that spark of inspiration you've been missing the last few years. Granted, a lot of the characters we deal aren't appropriate for the above genre, but a few are. A Professor and CEO comes to mind.

I used to read romance novels all the time in college. Still do once in a while, but not nearly as much. I guess that's where I got my sort of style from. I don't like to be too dirty--dirty words take me right out of a scene--so I do tend to be a little more vague because I'd rather focus on the feeling of the scene rather than the clinical mechanics. It's about the intimacy between the characters for me, and how they make each other feel, and there should be both sweetness and sexiness to it, I think. If it's too porny, then it stops feeling romantic.

Without getting too TMI, I try to put things I like in there, because, well, I'm writing for myself first and foremost. And my female characters tend to have the same "fetishes" I do--they're very into men with nice big hands, if that hasn't been clear, and they also like having their hair touched.

So I guess those are the two main things I focus on for writing something like this: finding the balance of sexy and romantic without being too drab or too dirty, and drawing on what I personally like.

And now this is making me want to drag out my old copy of The Nightingale Legacy. It has the most fantastic love scenes.
