Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
MORE. Good golly, I didn't realize I'd been so productive. I knew I was writing a lot here at the end, but going through and listing them all... wow. 31. I'm proud of myself for doing so much. On the other hand, I didn't work on a single one of my outstanding WIPs, because... I just can't get back into them. Last year I said I was going to take a break from CCS fic, and that I did. I still wrote a few things by request, but I had no desire to work on any of my old stuff. That's probably bad. But for everyone who wondered why I stopped writing.... Hell, no, I clearly didn't stop writing. I just wasn't writing anything you wanted to read.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2008?
I never thought I'd write anything for The Big Bang Theory. That was by request. Same with Yotsuba to!--if it hadn't been by request, I never would have done it. Whether they turned out, well, it was a good exercise for me, at any rate. Oh, and duh, Guy/Nat became my new obsession. I liked the hints in the game, but for some reason, it was the anime that made me go, okay, I have to write this, which is odd, because it's not like the anime gave anything new to go off of, except a bunch of two-shots.
What's your favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
I kinda love OVG. I think it's the most organic. Which is sad, because it was one of my first attempts, and it could be better. And I love IKIWISI. I'll say it again, I wish I could draw, because I'd love to put pictures to that (not the dirty parts--the girls' reactions). And Out Here I think has the most potential to be really good. It's rough, but there's something there.
Did you take any writing risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them?
My biggest risk was my challenge to write 13 fics during the last four months of the year. I did it. Go me! I learned that if I set myself a reasonable goal, and I tell people "this is my goal", then by God, I'm going to reach it. I am a huge procrastinator, but I made myself do this. Yeah, I pushed it to the wire, but I did it.
Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?
I don't know yet. I probably should go back to one of my old WIPs, but I make no promises on that. It's been over five years, and I am so out of that headspace now. Every time someone asks me about them, I feel guilty, but you know what? This is my hobby. I do it for fun. I don't get paid. So when it stops being fun, I stop doing it. I don't think I've ever known any other hobby where people get on your case if after a few years, you want to try something new.
Hopeless was fun. "It's like thinking about cheagles doing it!" I need to do more things like that, taking advantage of the interactions between the group. Same with IKIWISI. (Am I going to start calling that "icky-wizzy"?) And Perfection was fun, because, hello, PORN.
Queen was disappointing if only because it was a lazy slap-dash fic written to get the "health" theme off my list. Really, Natalia's thoughts on her father's death should take more than 200 words. Oh, and Pendants. I really wanted to do a Meryl!Natalia AU, but it was too daunting, so I squeezed the idea into Pendants instead, along with reference to a Guy-Mary sibling fic I started but haven't finished. So it's disappointing that I never got back to that one. Oh, and Best Served Hot. That was going to be my revenge!Guy/Susanne fic. Why didn't I follow up on that idea? Then I thought about making it revenge!Guy/Natalia as a way of writing conflict between them, since most of their stuff is so fluffy and friendly. Okay, goals for next year? To explore those ideas and get something down.
Most Sexy and Best Sexy Moment:
Perfection. Come on, it's Guy/Nat porn. Who wouldn't love that? And WWYS has its moments. But I'm kinda surprised how much I liked the idea of AschLuke/Natalia in FTON. AL/N is something else I might think about exploring more.
Hardest to Write:
Almost everything. I know that's vague, but writing is hard for me. I love coming up with ideas, snippets of dialogue, but actually writing something in a coherent narrative is very hard. That's why I sometimes love doing these "three lines" memes and stuff. It gets the ideas going, lets me make a joke I can't resist, but without the difficulty of setting a scene and all that.
Most Unintentionally Telling:
Tagging so I can find this next year. And, man, I hope all those links are right.
