Ted and the Mother, How I Met Your Mother

This one was difficult, because I tried to think of a series in progress that has had no resolution yet, and this is what I came up with.

Now, I understand the construct of the show is that this search for "the mother" is really just a device for the rest of the events to happen around/toward, but seriously. It's been five years. This is the problem with TV shows that have no defined endpoint. As long as a show gets renewed, you can't resolve the main question. So we get hints that maybe this is where Ted meets the mother, but of course he doesn't.

And this past season was... not good. I loved this show, but I'm getting fed up. Yes, part of that was the crappy way Barney/Robin was handled (more on that later), but part of it is that treading water feeling I got all year. Filler, filler, filler. Yes, I know it's a sitcom, and don't take it seriously, because it's just meant to entertain and make you laugh. I get that. And I try to repeat to myself it's just a show etc etc.

But next year, honestly, they need to get back to what made this show great, and they need to introduce us to the @$!&%# mother already. The show can't go on forever. Make something happen. Or else I'm really going to stop caring.

In the words of Ted, "Come on! Come on! COME ON!"

I agree, Ted needs to meet her already. How many near misses can they continue to have? It's getting ridiculous. I didn't like the way the whole Barney/Robin thing was handled either but I still liked this season for the most part. There were some good moments in there and it still always makes me laugh more than a lot of other shows that are on now. The only problem is that its gotten pretty static...like its hit a plateau. It needs to move FORWARD, lol.

Hmm, I'm prob. interpreting the questions diff. lol. For my #3 I picked a pairing I just felt was so obvious that it needed to happen....now, lol. :)

That's how I felt. I try not to get too rage-y with shows, because as long as it entertains me, then does the lack of forward movement really matter? But I just get the feeling that they ran out of ideas and they have to put off introducing the mother because once they do, it's over. I've always thought most shows, especially sitcoms, really only have three or four good years in them, and the longer it goes on, the lazier the writing gets and the broader the characters get until everyone's just defined by one or two traits.

That's probably the most direct interpretation. My problem was that I have very few series that are both currently ongoing and haven't resolved the ships to my satisfaction, so I went with this.
