a short trip, but still
I can't believe how much trouble I'm having with this next chapter, by the way.

I'm having to write about something I'm having a very hard time describing, and it's bogging me down.

Ugh, maybe I should just skip it, if I didn't need the lead up for a plot point.

Stupid story.

What exactly is bogging you down?

Narrative active description. I hate writing this kind of stuff.

Not until it's done, at which point you can go, "You're right, you suck at this."

Well i can't say you suck at something when I don't know what it is. What is Narrative Active Description?

Using the narrative to describe action?

You mean like this?

Before turning away, their lips met in a brief kiss. Not even a kiss. A peck. A peck between friends. Friends who had once been lovers. Then that peck led to another. Then another, the ones they loved forgotten in the moment, until the word "peck" became a gross misrepresentation of what they were doing. More accurate words were lick and sigh. Stroke and gasp. Thrust and moan.

The example is from a writer I know whose pretty good at describing action with narrative.

Well, sure, love scenes are one thing. But something like, say, riding a motorcycle, I just can't make work.

For many men riding a motorcycle is a love scene. Think like one.

Only it's the wrong point of view, plus something I haven't done in a very long time. At least with the other I have more recent experience to draw on.
