But are we "average Americans" really so stunned that politicians are rich? It just seems like the media keeps acting like it's a new thing, some big surprise, that someone running for president has money, and we should all be outraged at the unfairness. And they really do seem to think we don't understand how/why investment income is taxed differently than ordinary income.

I wish I liked Romney more, but I don't like Gingrich at all, and Santorum is out because he looks like my high school band director. I feel like I have nowhere to go.

Personally, I'm not stunned. Nor do I think it's unfair that Romney, or anyone running for Pres for that matter, has money. You have to have a lot of money to run for office. Campaigns cost a lot of money. If most people don't realize that then they're idiots. (And I don't get why people think Democrats are any different than Republicans in that regard, they have just as much money, sometimes more. Maybe they're just better at pretending they're like the average working person.)

I've seen the way the media's painting it. They are hyping things up (A LOT) but I can't disagree that Romney comes off a certain way, whether he *is* like that or not...it's just how he comes off.

I don't *care* that he has money, but I'm not impressed by it either. I'm sure he worked fairly hard for that money, but his personality just...sends me into an irrational rage for some reason. I have no idea why.

Santorum, haha. I can't believe he's still in it to be honest.

I feel like there's probably a good candidate out there somewhere (you know I lean towards RP's ideals on most things but he'll never get elected) but the Republican party just never found them. It really makes me mad.

If it comes down to it and I have to vote for Romney, I'm gonna vote for Romeny.

How much more screwed up could things get anyway with whoever the Republicans decide? We know where we're headed with Obama, so we might as well get someone new to come in. And take it from there.

It just really makes me nervous when people start going on about how "unfair" the capital gains tax rate is. I mean, we are not rich, but we do have investments, and any raise in that tax rate is going to affect us big time. And it will also discourage investment overall, which is bad for the economy, as our candidates seem to understand, but the media/left cannot wrap their little heads around it.

Along with Daniels, who I like, I very much wish that Christie was running. Every time I see him interviewed, I think he is just completely awesome. If things go badly this time around, I hope he jumps in next time. Or I'd love to see him as a VP pick.

Yeah, I know what you're saying about capital gains tax. It isn't a bad thing that it's taxed lower. The thing that gets me is that some people use that system and take advantage of it so that most of their earnings are from capital gains and not considered income.

Personally, I think our entire tax system is, pardon the language, fucked. We need to just start over with a clean slate and redo everything.

I agree about Christie. I saw several interviews with him as well and he impressed me. I really wish he was in the race but maybe the timing wasn't right. VP would be awesome because it can be a huge stepping stone. Or, you know, Romney could die and then we'd end up with a decent president. Just putting it out there....lol.

Ain't that the truth.
