We finally got to see The Artist yesterday. It was amazing! I loved it. Just perfection. It gets my vote for best picture, although, granted, I haven't seen many of the other nominees yet. I'm trying to get to that, but it's hard when you don't have an art house theater anymore. We couldn't even see this at the theater nearest us because of course it has to show Underworld on three screens.

I think the dog was our favorite character. We're dog people anyway (suck it, cats!), but so, so cute.

I used to care about the Oscars. And then I got mad at them for not giving Bill Murray the award for Best Actor for Lost in Translation and I've been sorta pissed off at The Academy ever since.

The Artist did look like a great movie though.

I heard Moneyball got nominated? I think that was a pretty decent movie. Not sure if it's Oscar worthy, but it was good.

And another thing (don't mean to rant in your journal comments but now i'm on a roll) The Academy are just a bunch of snobby snobs. I hate that sometimes really amazing movies don't get nominated for Best Picture just because they're not (at least partly) serious or dramatic pictures.

I'm glad to see Melissa McCarthy nominated for Bridesmaids at least, I hope she wins.

And Rooney Mara for Girl With the Dragon Tatoo (that was sooo much better than Moneyball, why wasn't that nominated?)

I seriously can't stand the Oscars. Yet I'll watch them anyway like I do every year. And complain about how I hate the Academy (suck it Academy!) while watching.

At least Billy Crystal is back hosting this year.

Oh, Bill Murray was totally robbed that year. Although I was confused by the classification of LiT as a "comedy"; yeah, it was funny at times, but a "comedy" it wasn't, except I guess in the technical sense, since he didn't die at the end. But comedies and scifi/fantasy definitely have to work twice as hard to get any respect, which sucks for sure.

I didn't see Bridesmaids yet, but I have residual love for Melissa McCarthy from Gilmore Girls, so I'd love to see her win. Comedies really only get acknowledged in the supporting and screenplay categories.

I don't know how I feel about the Oscars anymore. The telecast can be boring (especially the two hour stretch in the middle--all the awards we care about are either at the beginning or the end), but for some reason, even if I haven't seen most of the films, I like to see who wins. And yes, the clothes!

Billy Crystal is always good (I love the medleys), but a few years ago when they were looking for a new "hipper" host, I suggested (to D, anyway) Greg Kinnear, and he agreed. I don't know why they don't go with him. I've loved him since the Talk Soup days.

Yeah, I don't get that either. LiT really isn't a comedy. It has comedic elements but it's still a drama.

Comedies soooo get screwed at the Oscars. It's true. And the sad thing is I think it's probably 10 times harder to make someone laugh than it is to act in a drama. People should get recognized by the Academy for that more, it's not an easy thing to do by any means. I think sometimes the Academy forgets that movies are all about entertainment and that comedy is a large part of that. Peh. '

I don't know why I get so worked up about it. Acting is an overrated job anyway.

Anywho. Yes, the dresses! I'm all about the dresses! :)

Greg Kinnear....I could see that. It would be interesting.

Oh, PS: I predict probably The Artist will win Best Picture. I see The Help sweeping the acting categories, especially in Best Supporting Actress. I didn't see either movie, but I have a feeling.... And I think they'll probably throw HP:DH2 a bone with one of the lesser categories...effects maybe. :)
