After the wasteland that was the fall, this was a pretty good anime season. We haven't quite finished everything yet, but we're getting there, and I feel safe about calling it. And even the ones near the bottom of the list aren't "bad" but for whatever reason didn't pull me in like the ones at the top. So, ranking best to middling, and based on how I'm thinking at the moment with all but number one subject to shuffling, we've got.....

Boku dake ga Inai Machi (Winner: Best show about child abuse/abduction/murder)
Gate--Jietai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri (Winner: Best ending sequence, best inappropriate ship)
Hai to Gensou no Grimgar (Winner: Most depressing show (Yes, more than the show about child abuse))
Haruchika--Haruta to Chika wa Seishun Suru (Winner: Show KyoAni should have made instead of Hibike Euphonium)
Nijiiro Days (Winner: Best palette cleanser)
Dimension W (Winner: Best opening theme, best throwback)
Utawarerunmono--Itsuwari no Kamen
Prince of Stride Alternative (Winner: Show that most made me miss Free!)
Musaigen no Phantom World
Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!
Shoujo-tachi wa Kouya wo Mezasu
Dagashi Kashi
Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm
Norn 9 (Winner: Pretty but forgettable)
Bubuki Buranki

Meanwhile D is so glad I got him watching Jane the Virgin. We were both skeptical when we heard about it before it premiered, but I heard good things and comparisons to Ugly Betty, so I watched the first season without him. By the time I realized he would like it, it was too late to try to get him caught up, so I made him watch it over the summer. Now we're watching season two on demand as we can. Rogelio and Louis from Fresh off the Boat are my two favorite TV dads right now (when Louis stopped to buy eggs and also picked up an Archie digest "for the bathroom", I was like, he is my people.)

Archer's coming back soon, or has already, right? So more stuff we're going to have to find time for.

Ohmigosh, Jane the Virgin is my new favorite thing. I'm purposely stretching out watching season one on Netflix, hoping that I won't have to wait too long before season two is there as well, so don't say anything spoilerish to me - but it's such an awesome show!

It's so much better than I initially thought it was going to be. They cram in so much plot and emotion and cuteness! Just an adorable show.

Boku dake: This show was a shipwreck, that is, it totally wrecked everyone's favorite ship. Great show though, and a great adaptation. I confess after I got spoiled about the ending I didn't have the heart to finish; maybe in a bit.

Gate: Didn't watch; premise didn't hook me. Dimension/Time travel shows are a mixed basket for me. I was hooked by Thermae Romae, about a Roman Bath architect who periodically stumbles into modern Japan, where he draws inspiration.

Hai to Gensou no Grimgar: Didn't watch yet... but more depressing than Boku Dake?? How??

Haruchika: Didn't watch it because at first glance it felt like Hibike Euphonium redone. Why is Haruchika superior?

Dimension W looks really well animated.

I'm so glad I knew nothing about these going in. I'd hate to be spoiled on the endings. I really looked forward to the new episodes every week.

Explaining why Grimgar is depressing would spoil it. I don't do that.

Haruchika is superior because Hibike Euphonium was dullsville.

D said Dimension W restored his faith in anime. It just had that oldschool vibe.

Think you could do a drabble where Satoru wakes up, like, 5 years later instead of 15?

Probably not.

Hehehe, well, it was a lame request.

I just don't know what would be all that different.
